David Bernard

In recent seasons, one of New York’s most innovative maestros, David Bernard (Music Director of the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony and of the Massapequa Philharmonic) has been selling-out concerts with his much-admired ‘InsideOut’ format – where the audience is physically seated within the ranks of the orchestra!

‘You don’t just lead musicians as a music director, you join a community. You champion it. In every sense, you conduct it.’
— David Bernard

As multiple First Prize winner of the Orchestral Conducting Competition of the American Prize, Maestro Bernard has been acclaimed both for his work bringing classical music to communities in New York City, Long Island and beyond, and also for his brilliant interpretations. He has made more than 16 recordings, most recently for Recursive Classics with the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony. Recent releases have won rave reviews; Gramophone wrote of The Rite of Spring ‘committed and forceful... (with) thrilling moments’, and of Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, ‘frequently shed(s) light on a thrice-familiar standard… parts emerge like newly-scrubbed details in a restored painting’. And The Arts Desk enthused of his recording of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony ‘scintillating, edge-of-the-seat playing... a winner’.
